Tips to Maintain Oral Hygiene
Our teeth, gums, tongue, and mouth are some very important parts of our body. One cannot imagine life without any of them. Considering how important they are for our overall health, we do not seem to take care of them so much. And it often leads to toothache, tooth decay, gum bleeding, gum swelling, bad breath, mouth ulcers, et cetera. So what can you do to prevent such things? Read to find out -
- Brush twice a day - there are a lot of theories about the benefits/downsides of brushing your teeth twice a day. But brushing your teeth twice a day is definitely a good thing, no matter what anyone says. More than twice is not good, but twice a day is excellent. Once, in the morning, after you wake up. And then again, before going to bed. Because when we are sleeping, the food particles in our mouth start to decompose, in the presence of moisture, and can decay teeth or cause bad breath.
- Floss - there are several misconceptions about flossing your teeth too. Some say it is painful, others say it causes gum bleeding. Truth is that if done the wrong way, flossing will surely lead to these mishaps. But when done correctly, your teeth will thank you. Floss removes hidden particles between teeth and gums, from places where your regular brush cannot reach. So everyday, before going to bed, remember to floss.
- Mouthwash - some people seem to believe that mouthwash is a substitute for toothpaste. Well, it is not. Mouthwash should always be accompanied with brushing your teeth. It can be used as a substitute for flossing though. After brushing your teeth, take a shot of mouthwash, rinse your mouth thoroughly with it, and spit it out. Rinse your mouth with normal water to remove any left-out mouthwash from your mouth. It helps remove hidden particles and eliminate bad breath.
- Clean your tongue - not many people like cleaning their tongue. It is a weird experience for them. But that does not mean you should ignore your tongue. Because no matter how much you keep your teeth clean, if your tongue remains dirty, your mouth will remain dirty. So always remember to clean your tongue after you brush your teeth.
- Drink more water - drinking a good amount of water helps prevent the effects of acidic food on your teeth in between meals. You can’t possibly brush your teeth after everything you eat, right? But water can help clean your mouth. Always drink more water, and make sure to rinse out your mouth after every meal.
- Dental check-up - we tend to take care of our body, but always forget our oral hygiene. Well, that should not happen. You should always get your teeth checked by a licensed dentist at least once a year. Because oftentimes, there are problems that only a dentist can see. So book an appointment today, and get your teeth checked!
As much as our internal health is necessary, our oral hygiene is necessary as well. Do not ignore it. Follow the above mentioned tips, and say hello to a healthy mouth!
