SPEARMINT OIL - All You Need to Know
Spearmint is the oldest variety in the mint family and gets its name from its spear-shaped leaves. Popular for its light, and refreshing aroma, it has been around since the old ages, given how beneficial it is as a remedy for several ailments. Extracted from this same, miraculous spearmint plant is the Spearmint Essential Oil. It has a gentle smell, helps keep your gut healthy, and eases anxiety & tension, among several other benefits.
- Good for skin - When applied to the skin (diluted), it is helpful in treating rashes, redness, inflammation, insect/bug bites, itchiness, dryness, and even irritation caused due to eczema (though, medical supervision is also required).
- Soothes mental exhaustion - When used for aromatherapy, this oil works wonders to treat stress, anxiety, tension, and mental tiredness. Since it has a soothing aroma, it is also a great solution to curb irregular sleep cycles and insomnia.
- Keeps gut-healthy - You can add a few drops of this oil to water, and drink it first thing in the morning. It facilitates digestion, prevents infections, and eases bowel movements as well.
- Antimicrobial - It kills microbes, saving you from harmful diseases. Disinfecting cuts, bruises, and wounds with this oil helps keep the affected areas sanitized and infection-free. It can also be used to clean floors, cooktops, doors, etc.
- Adding spearmint oil to your bath water helps eliminate body odor, as it kills odor-causing germs. It is also great to keep away odor caused due to dried sweat and skin rashes. You can use this oil as a mouth-wash (by mixing it with water) to kill microbes in your mouth, thus preventing bad breath.
- Spice up your baking goods! - Add 1-2 drops of Spearmint Oil to cookie dough, bread dough, or even ice-cream batter to make a new flavor out of your old dishes. It will elevate the flavor, and also impart health benefits.
- Repels insects/bugs - Since this oil has a strong aroma, it is highly effective in keeping bugs/insects at bay. You can either rub a few drops on your wrists, temples, or neck or dab it on cotton balls, and mix it with water to use as a water spray.
