Essential Oils to treat Cold & Cough
Cold & cough have to be two of the most common illnesses. And they leave as fast as they enter our body. But when left untreated or mistreated, cold & cough can become your biggest enemies as well. To ensure that it doesn’t happen, that’s why, it is important to treat it properly when the time is right. However, getting yourself medically examined is always recommended.
One of the ways to treat cold & cough at home is by essential oils. Yes, essential oils. They are not just good for your mental health, but also for illnesses and diseases. The following essential oils are the ones you can use -
- Eucalyptus Oil - Eucalyptus Oil helps treat cold, sinus, migraine, and cough, while also treating irregular sleep patterns. It also works as a bug repellant, antiseptic, reduces stress, and is a great source of antioxidants.
- Peppermint Oil - Treats gut troubles, such as indigestion, infections, eases uneasiness, nausea, headache, disinfects surfaces, such as cooktops, floors, doors, tables, relieves stress, fatigue, anxiety, improves your sleep cycle, it contains ‘menthol’, which relieves muscle cramps, joint pain, relieves skin itching, removes dandruff, and other scalp infections, and also gets rid of hair lice
- Cinnamon Leaf Oil - Use this oil in a diffuser to relieve other symptoms of cold & cough, such as headaches, uneasiness, heartburn, et cetera. Cinnamon Leaf Oil is also antimicrobial in nature, which makes it good to be used to eliminate mucus.
- Tea Tree Oil - Possibly one of the best remedies for cold & cough, tea tree oil is a great antimicrobial agent. It has a cooling aroma, which calms down anxious nerves, providing you immediate relaxation.
How to Use Essential Oils to relieve cold & cough? -
- Steam Bath - Add a few drops of essential oil to a bowl of boiling water. Bend your head to inhale the steam. You can use a towel or cotton cloth to cover your head. Don’t lean too much into the bowl, as it might lead to steam burns.
- Apply directly - Rub 1-2 drops of any one of these essential oils on your wrist, temples or neck. Take some rest, and you will feel rejuvenated when you wake up.
- Warm Compress - If you are running a fever, the first advice is obviously to go see a doctor. Once you are home after the check-up, for immediate relief, you can use a warm compress to subdue the fever. Mix 2-3 drops of an essential oil to a bowl of warm water. Spread this warm piece of cloth on your forehead to relieve fever.
