Essential oils have truly taken the healthcare and personal care industries by storm. They are good for your skin, your hair, overall body health, as well as oral hygiene. But yet, not much information about essential oils is found among people. So today, let’s clear some doubts, and get to know every important detail about essential oils.

  • What are essential oils?
In simple words, essential oils are the essence of plant parts, such as stems, barks, leaves, flowers, seeds, roots, peels, rinds, et cetera. Just as ‘essence’ means the intrinsic nature or indispensable quality of something, essential oils provide you the essence, i.e. concentrated goodness of a plant.
  • What are the main uses of essential oils?
Mainly, essential oils are popular in aromatherapy, as they are great to be used as aromatherapeutic agents to reduce stress, anxiety, tension, and lifestyle worry. But essentials are much more than that. Several oils are great for skin problems, such as pimples, acne, dark spots, and signs of aging (tea tree oil, rose essential oil, lemongrass oil, orange oil, rosehip oil, etc.), for your hair, and oral hygiene as well. There are numerous other benefits, which you can get to know on our website www.vannessentials.com
  • How to use essential oil?
Since essential oils are concentrated, it is well advised to use them in diluted form and in very small quantities. Over usage might lead to nausea, headache, skin infections, or even fever. To make sure you use them properly, mix 1-2 drops with a carrier oil/cream/lotion/gel. To use in a diffuser, add 4-5 drops. To dilute with water, mix according to your need.
  • What are some essential oils to keep skin healthy?
  1. For acne - tea tree oil, rosehip oil, rose essential oil, lemongrass oil, lemon essential oil, orange oil
  2. For signs of aging - rose essential oil, lemon essential oil, lavender essential oil
  3. For dark spots, hyperpigmentation - tea tree oil, rose essential oil, lemon essential oil
  • What are some other ways to use essential oils for aromatherapy if we don’t have a diffuser at home?
Not having a diffuser is not a problem. Because there are numerous other ways to use essential oils. You can dilute the oil with water and spray it inside your home. You can rub a few drops on your temples, wrists, neck, or elbows to let the aroma refresh you every time you feel down. You can dab it on cotton balls and keep them behind window panes, door hinges, or kitchen sinks to allow the aroma to spread itself gradually.
  • Can I consume essential oils?
Only if they are ‘consumable’, i.e. ‘edible’. Some essential oils are safe to consume (when diluted with water or drinks), while others are not. So before you begin using essential oil in your everyday diet, make sure to confirm from the brand or internet whether it is edible or not.
  • How can I know if I’m allergic to essential oil or not?
Always do a patch test before using an essential oil. To do so, rub 1 drops of the essential oil on your wrist or neck to see if it causes irritation or redness. If not, then you are not allergic. If you do see some irritation, immediately wash the are off with water. Also, ALWAYS use essential oil after diluting it with water or any other agent.
