You have bought pure essential oils. You have chosen an ultrasonic misting machine for your living room or workspace. You fill it up with water add your essential oils and turn it on. Expecting a nice cloud of aroma to fill your room.
After a few weeks you notice that the mist is thin and weak. The nice aroma that used to fill the room now barely comes out of the device. Worse your lavender or lemongrass essential oils start to smell bad.
What is wrong? The answer is probably that you do not clean your aroma diffuser regularly.
An electronic aroma diffuser is a machine. It uses a disc that vibrates very fast to turn water and essential oils into a fine mist. When you do not clean it the disc gets dirty.

To clean your machine you need to know how it works.
At the bottom of your aroma diffuser there is a disc. When you turn it on the disc vibrates fast and creates a fine mist.. There are two things that can make your machine not work well:

Even the best essential oils leave behind a bit of residue. After a days this residue builds up and makes the disc vibrate less.
2. Hard Water Mineral Buildup
If you use tap water it has minerals like calcium and magnesium. When the water evaporates these minerals stay behind. Build up. This buildup can damage your machine.
2. Daily Care for Your Aroma Diffuser
Cleaning your diffuser does not have to be hard. Here are three simple rules to follow:
• Empty the water tank every day
Do not leave water and essential oils in your machine when it is turned off. This can make mold and bacteria grow.
• Wipe it down every day
Use a cloth to wipe down the inside of your machine. This will remove any oil residue.
• Use the water
If you live in an area with hard water use filtered or distilled water to prevent mineral buildup.
3. Weekly Deep Cleaning
A week you should deep clean your aroma diffuser. Here is how:
Step 1: Unplug it
Turn off your machine and unplug it.
Step 2: Fill it with water and vinegar
Fill the water tank halfway with water. Add some white vinegar.
Step 3: Run it for 5-10 minutes
Turn it on and let it run for a minutes. This will help clean the disc and remove any buildup.
Step 4: Drain it
Turn it off. Pour out the water and vinegar.
Step 5: Use a cotton swab
Dip a cotton swab in vinegar. Gently rub it on the disc. This will remove any buildup.
Step 6: Rinse and dry
Rinse your machine with water and dry it with a soft cloth.
4. Troubleshooting
If your machine is still not working after cleaning check for these problems:
• Overfilling
Make sure you do not fill the water tank too much.
• Fan blockage
Check if the fan is blocked by dust or hair.
• Intermittent mode
Make sure you did not accidentally turn on the mode.
