Battle of the Viral - How to Treat Cold & Cough?
It’s almost winter season, which means it’s that time of the year again. Yes, you guessed it right - the time of the viral. With almost everyone in our family and among friends sneezing and coughing, it’s essential we keep ourselves protected, and help them deal with their illness too. So how exactly can you battle the viral season, and emerge out harmless and successful? Well, following tips might help you out!
Hygiene Habits to Keep in Mind:
- Wear a mask - You should be wearing a mask anyway, because the pandemic is still ongoing. But even in case of cold and cough, you need to wear masks. While travelling in metros, trains, buses, or even walking on streets or with people, wearing a mask will ensure no infection infects or affects you. Also encourage other people to wear masks.
- Stay hydrated - Cold and cough, even fever, can stay away if you keep yourself hydrated. Such is the power of water. Drink atleast 2 litres of clean, normal temperature water everyday. Apart from keeping viral at bay, water is also helpful in keeping other diseases away.
- Keep a handkerchief - if you have cold, cough, or fever, keep a handkerchief nearby. You don’t want the germs to spread to other people. Even if you’re not infected, keeping a handkerchief is important to protect yourself from diseases. Keep it on your face if you see someone coughing or sneezing nearby without protection.
- Drink warm fluids/ eat warm food - Prevent cold drinks/food for a while, because it doesn’t take an effort before you’re already trapped in the chains of cold and cough.
Essential Oils to treat cold and cough this Viral season -
- TEA TREE OIL - This essential oil can prevent the infection from further spreading, by killing disease-causing germs, and proving you faster relief. Either add a few drops to a diffuser, or inhale from the bottle directly. You can also add a few drops to a bowl of hot water, and inhale the steam to clear nose congestion and promote sleep.
- EUCALYPTUS OIL - According to a recent medical review, eucalyptus essential oil is righ in antiviral and antimicrobial properties. Historically, these properties have been used to treat cough and common cold. When inhaled, eucalyptus oil and its main component, 1,8-cineole, can effectively fight viruses and respiratory problems such as bronchitis.
- PEPPERMINT OIL - the menthol in it helps relieve headache and uneasiness caused due to cough and cold. It might even help with the cold and cough, by relieving symptoms.
- LAVENDER OIL - this essential oil’s enchanting aroma helps induce sleep while you are suffering from cough and cold. Add a few drops to diffuser, or simply inhale the aroma from the bottle directly.
Ways you can use Essential Oils -
- Diffuser - Add some drops of your favorite essential oil to diffuser, and just let the aroma soothe you down.
- Inhale directly - You can also inhale the oil’s aroma directly from the bottle. Just make sure you don’t take the bottle too close to your nose, as it might lead to more irritation and uneasiness.
